Finding a credible commercial e-waste recycling partner turned out to be its own small adventure in institutional dysfunction. The first vendor had an impressive website and a response time that suggested the website was the primary product. The second quoted a price, collected a deposit, and then underwent what their out-of-office message described as a company restructuring. The third was technically operational but could not explain what DOD 5220.22-M meant, which is not reassuring when you are asking someone to destroy drives containing a decade of medical records.
